Flappy Clone
This project was created in 24 hours as part of a technical assessment, the goal was to recreate the game flappy bird as closely as possible.
I started by identifying the key features of flappy bird and broke them down into a list to work through, this included all the mechanics and assets I would require for the game. I created all the assets myself apart from the background image, I also took some time learning how to set up an animated sprite so that I could replicate the one from the original game. This was the project I worked on immediately before Rogue Space and there are a few ideas that stuck with me when we started the design phase on the new game, these were things like the scrolling background to give the illusion of player movement and the use of an object pool to help with optimisation. Flappy clone can be downloaded and played here. There is also a YouTube playlist showing the development of flappy bird at its various stages here. |
