Glacial PAss
The Glacial pass is a full level for an ARPG style game, inspiration for the mechanics came from games like Diablo and Torchlight.
It features; a full combat system with a variety of enemy types that are introduced to the player slowly throughout the level, a quest system designed to guide the player through to the final boss, a full inventory system and shop NPC and several traps to avoid and puzzles to solve. The mechanics and systems were built by me from scratch while the art assets are a combination of my own textures and models with the free Infinity Blade assets from the Epic marketplace. The main aim of this project was to design an interesting level fleshed out with mechanics to serve as a prototype for an action RPG style game, to that end I made use of several feedback sessions to gather data on how the level could be improved. This helped me tailor things like the UI, item drop rates and enemy encounters. The thing I am particularly happy with in this project is the enemy variety, I went out of my way to try to make the Ice Worm and the Shield Pylon as different as possible. The Ice Worm enemy uses several AI states to try to keep the player at range by tunnelling away if the player gets too close, the shield pylon on the other hand shields a nearby enemy making them invincible until the player destroys the pylon. |
